Reported by International Business Times, Friday (05/04/2012), scientists are now analyzing the difference of body structure variability in certain dinosaur groups. By looking at changes in variability, the researchers could make a rough idea about the overall viability of these ancient animals.
Based on these findings, the research team from Columbia University and the American Museum of Natural History found the dinosaurs became extinct gradually. Reportedly, the number of large-bodied animals, it decreased significantly over time.
In addition, the research also found a type of herbivorous dinosaurs, hadrosaurs and ceratopsids has decreased the number since 12 million years ago in the Cretaceous period of time (lime). In fact, long before the asteroid impacts have an effect on the survival of life on Earth at that time.
"I think our study confirms the fact that we still have a long way to fully understand the extinction of the dinosaurs," said Stephen Brusatte from Columbia University.
The scientists believe, a new study shows that things have not been revealed about the extinction dnosaurus. They believe further research will help them learn more about the lost world.
