Yocha News - Major League Baseball to celebrate Jackie Robinson Day is today, 65 years after Jackie breaking the color barrier in baseball. All players and coaches will wear Robinson's number 42 today.

I really can not say anything you do not already know about Robinson. We can not imagine what he went through, dealing with the incredible stupidity every day. Face it all with class and dignity, which takes a very special person. A worthy celebration.

As players, disregarding his place in history, he was special. He came not to the majors (because of the ignorance of the time) until the age of 28 and he still has a 10-year career with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He retired with a batting average line of .311/.409/.474. He stole 197 bases, including 19 (!) Steal from home. He played good defense at second base most of his career. He won the Rookie of the Year in 1947, the NL MVP in 1949 and made six All-Star team.

In general, the sport only sport. Jackie on the other hand, is more important than just baseball. He gave a face to the movement of all civil rights. He is the only thing changed from political themes that people can more than just an idea to understand. It is hard to believe that a relatively short time ago the world was so different.

We are almost no people who brought us out first hand from the time of Jackie as a footballer. He died too young, only 53, but there are a lot of information about him on the internet. His Wikipedia page is a long and interesting to read.

I love this story from the New York Times, back in 1997, talking to Pee Wee Reese of Reese time just standing next to Robinson when Jackie was rejected and condemned from the stands. Only by standing with him, Reese said this is my teammates and the things a little better for Jackie. There is a large children over that time.

John Thorn, a part of the story of how Branch Rickey, Robinson went to the registration. Jordan Bastian reminded us that the first black American League also some attention.
