Research conducted at Sophos, in the first quarter of 2012 found the number of messages spread of malware to steal usernames, passwords and information increases. However, based on spamming for marketing purposes declined.
The decrease is due to the number of tactics that spammers do. They considered sending spam is not effective for marketing purposes by email. The spammers use social networks to spread spam marketing.
Senior Technology Consultant at Sophos, Graham Cluley said: "The latest statistics show that Internet users in developing countries do not take steps to block malware infection which can then turn their PCs into spam-spewing zombie."
Zombie computers are infected and form a botnet network. Botnets are used by cybercriminals to send spam, steal information and perform DDoS attack distributed denial of service (DDoS).
