Yocha News- Scientists examined how the mice whose brains had been connected to an infrared detector, can have unique abilities. Experiment with this set of rodents as rats given the first animal sixth sense ability.
Reported Newscientist, developed by Miguel Nicolelis and his team at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, the system is able to connect the sensor mounted on the head with the brain area. Areas of the brain normally processes the sensation of touch from the whiskers of mice.
As shown in the video display, the scientists explain that the mouse brain can be "tricked" when infrared light is detected. Thus, the mice had a new sense organ.
"Instead of seeing, rats learned how to touch the light," said Nicolelis. Area of the mouse brain that processes touch gained a new role.
The team also found that the area of the brain is constantly processing of tactile whiskers. "The brain of adult mice is much more 'plastic' (easily controlled) than we expected," he added.
These findings could lead to the prosthesis (artificial devices) brain that could restore sight to people who have damage to the visual cortex. According to Nicolelis, these findings may also help to develop the power of "superhero" for humans.
"This could be the X-rays, radio waves. Maybe super man (could) have a prosthetic device that others do not know," he explained
